The Best Cannabis Treats for Your Holiday Party

The Best Cannabis Treats for Your Holiday Party

After all the new states that have legalized marijuana this year, it would only make sense to bring some along to the various events and parties you’re going to attend, right?! Pretty much everybody gets excited when you bring out the weed chocolate or gummies. It can get a little pricey purchasing edibles for a large group, however, and not everybody wants to smoke, so we’ve found some easy DIY ideas for your get-together that are definite crowd pleases. You’ll get bonus points too for making it yourself; it’s always the thought that counts during the holidays…and whoever brings the best goods to the party.

Cannabis-Infused Liquor

California recently banned bars from selling marijuana-infused alcohol, but luckily you can just make it yourself! Really you can infuse any liquor with cannabis, but we usually pick clear alcohol for versatility.

Keep in mind that the effects of cannabis in this mix last longer and feel different than if you were to only smoke or eat edibles. We’re cool with that though; winter parties were made for chilling on the couch anyway, preferably near a fire. If you don’t have a fire there’s always the fireplace channel on youtube.

You’ve got to be really cautious when making cannabis-infused liquor, as obviously alcohol is highly flammable and heat is required to make this drink. Do NOT let the alcohol anywhere near an open flame, unless you’d like to die a fiery death right before the holidays. This means do NOT use a gas stove; instead use a hot plate or an electric stove.

Paste Magazine has a great guide on the specifics of the quick method we’ve mentioned above to create the drink. If you have more time, you can also do it the old-school way where all you need is Everclear, shake and a seal-able glass jar.

Green Dragon

This recipe is for if you want to amp up the level on the last recipe and impress your bartender friends. The combo of absinthe, gin and marijuana is magical. If you live in Australia and you don’t want to make your own alcohol, The Cannabis Co. recently invented the first cannabis-infused gin available for purchase.

Be careful: this is a highly potent drink that you probably want to enjoy at someone’s house or somewhere you feel most comfortable! It really sucks to become too high on accident, so we prefer to try this cocktail and wait an hour or two before going out.

Ingredients:

  • 45 ml (1.5 oz) marijuana leaf gin
  • 5 ml (1/4 oz) absinthe
  • 15 ml (1/2 oz) Feni cashew brandy
  • 15 ml (1/2 oz) simple syrup
  • 2 dashes orange flower water (optional)

Instructions:

  • Add all ingredients into a mixing glass.
  • Stir with cold hard ice until chilled.
  • Fine strain into a coupe.
  • Garnish with a large marijuana leaf.

Hot Cannabuttered Rum

This recipe doesn’t call for cannabis-infused liquor, and instead relies on cannabutter. You’ll get a different high with this, similar to that of baked good edibles. It probably won’t be as intense but it’ll be just as warm and comforting.

Ingredients:

  • 24 ounces spiced apple or pear juice
  • 4 teaspoons cannabutter, softened
  • 1⁄4 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon powdered sugar
  • 8 ounces dark rum
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon cloves
  • 4 cinnamon sticks

Instructions:

  • In a small saucepan, bring rum and cloves to a slow rolling boil for about 10 minutes.
  • While boiling off the alcohol, create “cannabutter cream” by whisking together cannabutter, heavy cream and powdered sugar. Set aside.
  • Strain the rum into a clean pot, add the cider and heat for a few minutes more. Pour the hot rum cider into 4 mugs and top each drink with 2 teaspoons of cannabutter cream.
  • Garnish drinks with a cinnamon stick and serve immediately. Makes 4 servings, each about 5 mg THC.

Ganjabread House

What could be more festive than a bong made out of a gingerbread house?! It might not be the best thing to eat (or maybe so?), but it’s really rad to smoke out of and you’ll pretty much be the “hit” of any party you bring this bong to. You can go to Target and pick up a gingerbread house kit for around $10 if you don’t want to deal with the process of making the gingerbread yourself. If you’re not eating it, it’s probably a good idea anyway because it’ll be faster. If you’re in need of parts, High Life Goods has downstems and nectar collectors that you can definitely use for this bong and afterwards as well.

Cannabis Caramel Sauce

Cannabis caramel sauce is great because you can pour it over non-medicated treats and drinks and continue to eat and drink afterwards with or without more sauce. We know this feeling all too well: you’ll start eating an edible and want to eat the rest because it tastes so good, but don’t want to get too stoned. Then sometimes eat it anyway and regret it later. No regret here; you can control your levels to your liking and enjoy the rest of your snacks afterwards!

Ingredients:

  • medium-sized saucepan
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup CannaButter
  • ½ cup water, distilled
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ tablespoon vanilla extract
  • spatula
  • mason jar w/ lid

Instructions:

  • Mix the brown sugar, granulated sugar, heavy cream, CannaButter, water and salt together in saucepan over medium heat.
  • Whisk constantly and gently for 8 minutes, or until sauce starts to thicken. Be careful not to burn. Adjust heat as necessary.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract and heat for an additional minute.
  • Turn off stove and remove pan from the heat. Allow sauce to cool for 5 minutes.
  • Transfer caramel sauce to mason jar. Use spatula to scrape all sauce from the pan.
  • Refrigerate until cold. Keep in the refrigerator.
